Game crashes when items are put in the bottom slot of furnace

I have confirmed that no matter what I do putting lava buckets, blaze rods, sticks, charcoal, coal, any wooden door, or any wooden tool in the bottom slot of a furnace makes the game crash. This happens on both creative and survival mode. Putting wood in a furnace does not make the game crash. Cooking meat with oak wood is not a problem as well saplings.
