16w38a heavy framerate drops

With 1.10.x I get 300+ frames with no extra ram besides default.
With new snapshots I receive drops down to a minimum of 15 fps at times. The max frames I have at any given time in the snapshot is 40-50
(Note: I have never had a framerate issue in previous snapshots)
