Extreme lag when item frames are on screen

When looking at, say, 20 item frames, my game lags so much that I can't scroll through my hotbar, I can't switch into or out of flying mode (creative), and I can't sprint by double tapping W. This is an outrageous issue, and it needs to be fixed. I can't make a wall of maps because the game lags so bad!
