Attempting to pull ignited TNT with a Fishing Rod at long distances rarely works

Whenever I try to pull an ignited TNT block with a Fishing Rod at longer distances it only works around 10-20% of the time and the other 80-90% of the time it sits there and does nothing. This could most likely be because of the way the Fishing Rod works or because of the way Minecraft's physics work.
