/summon minecraft:lightning_bolt does not work

Attempting to summon a Lightning bolt using /summon minecraft:lightning_bolt (auto-completed by pressing tab) does not work. I tried to summon one using the old summon command /summon LightningBolt which (as expexcted) didn't work either.
