selectors don't accept minecraft: prefix for entity type, but error message states otherwise

When you type

/kill @e[type=witherb]

the error message states

Entity type minecraft:witherb is invalid

but when typing

/kill @e[type=minecraft:wither]

it states

Entity UUID provided is of invalid format.
