chests not closing after GUI closed

while playing in creative with slime blocks, i discovered that if i open a chest and then bounce out of reaching distance from the chest, after a few seconds i hear the chest closing sound, and when i close the GUI the chest appears to still be open. after re logging, the is closed again.
