Cobblestone walls / Creating corners under torches

When attaching a torch to a wall and then placing a cobblestone wall below it, the wall produces a post which it should only produce at corners normally. It does this always and at any part of a wall whenever the block directly over the wall holds a torch. This does not happen with fences for example. Torches still can be placed on walls still.
