Black Screen When Facing Certain Directions

Summary:
Looking in certain directions makes the entire screen black, but goes away after exiting one of these black areas. This happens, apparently randomly, after connecting to either a server or singleplayer world and has so far only occurred in Minecraft 1.10.2. I don't know of this happening to anyone else, so this could be just my computer..

What I expected to happen was...:
I guess I expected to see the Minecraft world...

What actually happened was...:
...I instead saw an all black screen.

Steps to Reproduce:
I've been paying close attention each time this happens, but so far have not found any pattern.
What I am doing is just joining a world or server, but it seems to be random. I doubt the attached screenshot will help, but that's all I see when looking at one of these "black zones".
