wooden crafting items - sticks, buttons

I am trying to make sticks and the only wooden planks this works with is normal oak planks. Spruce, Jungle, or birch planks no longer work. I have tried to make these with my 2x2 crafting space and with a crafting table.

The only thing I can make wooden items, sicks, chests, buttons, wooden pressure plates etc with now is using oak planks.

I can still make wood specific half slabs/stairs.
