game crashes after loggin into any realm

What I expected to happen was...:
log on as normal to my realms and play multiplayer

What actually happened was...:
game crashes every time I log on to any realm

Steps to Reproduce:
1. start the game
2. select multiplayer and connect
3. logs onto a realm and crashes immediately
