Crashing When Joining Multiplayer servers

Pulling up the Minecraft launcher in attempts to join multiplayer servers and expecting to join them with ease. Server address is inserted properly.

What actually happened was that i was able to join for a short time (1 minute or less) but then the Minecraft client would crash.
