Problem with slabs

What I expected to happen was...:
Normally I should be able to go over them

What actually happened was...:
I always hang when I try do go over slabs. Minecraft doesn't crash or something but I am not able to set a foot on slabs.

1. It happens always when I try to step on slabs of any kind
