Can't interact with game or menu

The game doesn't freeze with this bug, but doesnt allow you to interact with it. I was typing ~ in chat to summon a horse and then I couldn't type anymore, nor could I exit the chat. I then closed minecraft and relaunched it. In the menu, I was not able to interact with the main menu. I then closed it and reopened 10 times. Some times I was able to click on realms but then I couldn't click anything from there. I relaunched the game in 1.9.4 and didn't encounter the bug.
