Minecart with hopper dissapears

Don't know how to replicate, but I've come back and found both of my minecarts with hoppers in the same chunk gone and not possible that they were stolen. As a side note this has also affected the youtuber called Mumbo Jumbo recently in an episode entitled disappearing items.
