Not getting awarded achievements in Minecraft

Is there a button to toggle them on and off? I don't feel complete without them.

What I expected to happen was...:
To get awarded all achievements for what I've done in the past. I have gotten really far, and no achievements, not even the easy ones.

What actually happened was...
NOTHING. No notifications, no pop up. Just no achievements.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do anything that would trigger an achievement. (Punch a tree)
2. Nothing will happen.
3. Be very sad that you did not get your achievement. ;(
