After being in the game for a couple minutes i am not able to use any buttons but the movement keys and my macbook trackpad.

i purchased the latest version on minecraft this evening and i am having major issues in the game which is cascading into out of game glitches also. Basically after being in the game for about two minutes all buttons cease to function except for movement keys ( arrow keys) and my trackpad. The best part is when i quit the game i have to restart my macbook because my keyboard still doesn't work even out of game!! i am extremely disappointed !!
