Cant get gravel using shovel

Im using fortune 3 diamond pickaxe and im mining a lot of gravel and when i checked my inventory i noticed that i only have just a few gravel while a mined a lot of it. The only thing I got is a lot of flints. I tried it one by one and theres no gravel that i can get. But when i mined it by hand i get the gravel
