However, unfortunately this report is Incomplete.
It does not contain enough information and as such, we've unable to understand or reproduce the bug. It sounds like your friend hasn't updated their game/server. Everyone must be on the same version to join a game.
Please have a read through the Guide on creating bug reports and make sure to include enough information in a new report so that a volunteer can easily reproduce the bug you describe.
Screenshots, videos and clear reproduction steps help immensely in getting your report confirmed.
