Cannot join remote linux bedrock server from android
Standard LTS 18.04 Ubuntu server hosted externally, no firewall.
Trying to connect to remote server from android. No luck.
Server receives udp requests from android, see attachments udpdump on the correct port. But it's not answering! Why not? Is it hanging? Is it a bug? Unsure.
Update: when I restart the server there is a short possibility to connect to the server. The server replies some basic info back to the android client. I could even walk around in the test world. See the udpdump. However, within a short while we're back at "locating server", no response from server, even though udp packets reach the server. It has happened when I switch apps both with and without pressing "save and quit" in the menu. Unsure what triggers this non-responsive state. Tried playing a bit longer, the server disconnects within 5 minutes and becomes unresponsive. Just before disconnect I do not see particles or block breaking/cracks when mining.

Hi Jero,
Does this happen with a new world?
Ionic
The world is from an earlier backup. I can replicate the bug with default settings though, and new world. The world generates, I walk around a bit in it, and then the server disconnects the client. Takes less than 5 minutes for it to happen. Server becomes unresponsive.
check your port forwarding on your router if you the server host, chek that your routers nat filtering is set to open if applicable
This server is not in my private network. It's a hosted server in a data center. There is no NAT filtering, no port forwarding, no firewall. I am able to play, but only a short while before the server becomes nonresponsive. Its not responding to client UDP packages in that state. It does respond after a restart. Look at the two dumped UDP screenshots.
Hi Jero,
Sorry for the delay.
I've seen a number of other BDS tickets come in for the same issue and in every case so far it has been an issue with time settings on the host. Fixing up the host time has resolved the problem.
Are you able to check this?
Ionic
Hi!
Thanks for suggesting timing. I looked into it. Changed time syncing according to this guide::
https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-set-up-time-synchronization-on-ubuntu-18-04
However, the problem persists.
I'm investigating another explanation right now. I'm sending, with fixed interval, nmap packets to see if the server is listening/open on port 19132. Can it be that these might trigger a server crash? Turned them off right now. I'll post in a couple days the result. So far it seems promising.
Update: I can confirm that this causes the server to become unresponsive. It does not "crash", just not possible to connect with clients anymore! Maybe not very wise to post the command here.
Hey Jero,
So, just to make sure I've understood you, something you had polling your server was causing the crash? What you can do is edit your report and mark it as private and include the details on how you were causing the hang, once you've done that if you're able to send me a message on Discord(IonicEcko#0001), Twitter (IonicEcko) or Reddit (IonicEcko) I can ask for it to be confirmed
.
Ionic
This is the command that triggers the unresponsive state:
nmap -sU -p 19132 --open URL
URL is the url pointing to the minecraft bedrock server
Thank you for your report!
We're actually already tracking this issue as
BDS-1413(which is a private bug report so isn't visible), so this ticket is being resolved and linked as a duplicate.Quick Links:
