Nether portals are taking the player to the Nether, but while exiting are making a new portal tens of blocks away from the original one
Also, while mining sometimes when you're mining some kind of a block it's putting this one in your hand replacing your tool, or if it's in the quick bar it's just selecting the block that you're mining right now.
