               "body": "Thats unfortunate :(\n\nDo you have any DNS blackholes (Pi-Hole/Technitium/OpnSense) on your network or advanced network filtering (IDS/IPS) etc?\n\nI'm still working on the assumption that your issue is environment specific and given you've tried different OS's the main remaining option is network/ISP. Given there are thousands of BDS instances running with online mode on across the world I'm hesitant to accept this one as a bug and just wait for a fix. That's not to say it isn't, I'm not a dev and can't be sure, your environment might be triggering a very specific bug, but more investigation is needed.\n\nIf we can't identify what on your network could be causing it, I can stand up an instance on my box and see if we can replicate the problem again.",

               "body": "I've done some more messing around and it seems to be specific to this machine as I was able to use my laptop as a server/client fine. I was also able to connect as a client from this machine as well which is weird. Next step I guess is to do a clean os install on this machine see if that helps if not its likely down to the network adapter/driver issue I would guess. Also to answer IonicEcko questions I'm on a very simple network no dns blackholes or filtering.",

               "body": "It did work for like a minute then it stopped. It had to be something specific on that windows install as It was still bridging the connection to the vm. I tried everything I could think of: I placed the ip in the dmz, I turned off the windows firewall, I manually set different dns servers. Im still not sure what the issue was as after the clean install of windows everything is working.",

As there are thousands of BDS instances running with online-mode on its clear this issue isn't reliably reproducible so we need to include as much information as possible.\n\nI have BDS instances running on Windows 10, Windows Server 2019 and Ubuntu for testing and online-mode works for all 3 of them so\u00a0_at the moment_\u00a0it looks like this issue is environmental rather than a bug but I'm happy to keep working with you to prove otherwise.\n\nEdit: @Ryan B could you please try using a hard coded DNS such as Google DNS or Cloudflare (on both server and client). I have solved the issue thanks to the suggestions implied in your comments above. Only after hours of staring at tcpdumps and changing dns settings in hosts files and resolv.conf files,\u00a0@tested2 (Ryan Bearfield)'s comment: \"It did work for like a minute then it stopped.\" made me think it could be a system time issue. And indeed, I noticed that the system time of my virtual machine was not synced with its host. After fixing this, the issue is resolved.\n\nApparently, the Minecraft app responds with the erroneous error message \"You need to authenticate to Microsoft services\" when the system time of the Minecraft server to which it connects is not set correctly. A better error message would be: \"Server time out of sync. Please notify the server administrator.\" or more generic and less helpful: \"Server incorrectly configured.\u00a0Please notify the administrator.\" I suppose that this could/should be raised as an issue/improvement for the app, not for BDS.\u00a0\n\n@Pandorda85 (Ryan Valizan): I think you must provide more details of the setup of your server if you want help to solve your issue, which could have a different cause. Also, please report your findings back to help the community especially after solving the issue.\n\n@IonicEcko (Ionic): Thank you for volunteering to drive the BDS issue board!",

I meant to respond but have been trying to get through the historical tickets as much as I can (600 tickets down so far!).\n\nThere's a good chance BDS doesn't know the time is incorrect, it tries to authenticate with Mojang but the time difference causes secure comms to fail. A lot of apps have this problem but if it turns out its the same problem for the others I'll ask for if we can get it added to an FAQ of sorts.\n\nThanks for the thanks :)",

I end up deleting then re installing the app. It used to work but now it says failed to connect to Microsoft account when I try to sign in.
