208 - A Mushroom Kingdom Carol (Part 8)

It's curtains for Bowser

This might be my favorite BitF storyline of them all. A Christmas Carol parodies are pretty common, but I'd like to think this one added some neat Mario-esque elements with Peach's long kidnapping and the roles of Bowser and his son. Coming up with good ideas for each of the spirits in the story was tough, and there were actually a few parallel plotlines that were tough to juggle all at once (like Wario's role, the hungry Yoshis, Bowser Jr's dystopia, Luigi's relationship with Mairo, the Coin Bank's loan, and Mario's main quest and growth) but I think it all ended up working out. Hope you enjoyed this holiday tale!

And that wraps it up for this years big ol' Christmas tale. I hope you enjoyed this extended look at the Mushroom Kingdom's future. Try reading it all in a row!

In a day or two, I'll probably make a big post in the forums with behind-the-scenes details and developmental junk if you're interested in that sort of DVD-esque stuff. For now, I'll just say that I had a lot of fun designing the older versions of all the characters, and wondering how they'd act and react to certain extreme circumstances in the Mushroom Kingdom.

And now a confession--this plotline took a massive amount of work. Excluding the family get-together from the past few days, I literally spent at least six or seven hours per day (on average) throughout the latter part of November all through December on BitF alone. And I know I've been a little grabby with the breaks lately, but between this and Ode to Minions and all the holiday stuff going on outside of BitF, I need to take some time off to get back to the basics! Plus, my apartment's a mess and I smell weird.

Two weeks from Tuesday should do it. Then expect something in blue-and-white (for once)!

In the meantime, I hope you all have a Happy New Year.
